The pure JavaScript Bitcoin library for node.js and browsers.
A continued implementation of the original `0.1.3` version used by over a million wallet users; the backbone for almost all Bitcoin web wallets in production today.

## Should I use this in production?
2014-11-25 04:07:40 +01:00
2014-07-02 01:02:52 +02:00
If you are thinking of using the master branch of this library in production, *stop* .
2014-07-01 19:30:14 +02:00
Master is not stable; it is our development branch, and only tagged releases may be classified as stable.
2011-05-06 01:08:46 +02:00
2014-07-02 01:02:52 +02:00
If you are looking for the original, it is tagged as `0.1.3` . Unless you need it for dependency reasons, it is strongly recommended that you use (or upgrade to) the newest version, which adds major functionality, cleans up the interface, fixes many bugs, and adds over 1,300 more tests.

## Installation
2011-12-20 12:47:50 +01:00
2014-03-01 14:03:37 +01:00
`npm install bitcoinjs-lib`
2013-10-07 14:21:00 +02:00
2014-04-23 17:20:00 +02:00
2014-03-19 04:10:39 +01:00
## Setup
2014-03-08 22:08:08 +01:00
### Node.js
var bitcoin = require('bitcoinjs-lib')
From the repo:
2014-03-01 14:03:37 +01:00
2014-03-08 22:08:08 +01:00
var bitcoin = require('./src/index.js')
2014-03-01 14:03:37 +01:00
2014-04-23 17:20:00 +02:00
2014-03-08 22:08:08 +01:00
### Browser
2014-03-05 22:53:29 +01:00
2015-01-05 02:54:03 +01:00
If you're familiar with how to use browserify, ignore this and proceed normally.
These steps are advisory only and allow you to use the API to its full extent.
2014-03-05 22:53:29 +01:00
2015-01-05 02:54:03 +01:00
[Browserify ](https://github.com/substack/node-browserify ) is assumed to be installed for these steps.
2014-03-05 22:53:29 +01:00
2014-07-02 01:02:52 +02:00
2015-01-05 02:54:03 +01:00
From your repository, create a `bitcoin.js` file
2014-07-02 01:02:52 +02:00
2015-01-05 02:54:03 +01:00
``` javascript
var bitcoin = {
base58: require('bs58'),
ecurve: require('ecurve'),
BigInteger: require('bigi'),
Buffer: require('buffer')
}
var bitcoinjs = require('bitcoinjs-lib')
for (var a in bitcoinjs) bitcoin[a] = bitcoinjs[a]
module.exports = bitcoin
```
Then, using browserify, compile `bitcoin.js` for use in the browser:
$ browserify bitcoin.js -s bitcoin > dist/bitcoin.js
You will then be able to load `dist/bitcoin.js` into your browser, with each of the dependencies above accessible from the global `bitcoin` object.

## Contributors
Stefan Thomas is the inventor and creator of this project. His pioneering work made Bitcoin web wallets possible.
Since then, many people have contributed. [Click here ](https://github.com/bitcoinjs/bitcoinjs-lib/graphs/contributors ) to see the comprehensive list.
