Markdown quotes have extra newlines when displayed

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

Go to any content or channel
Make a comment with a markdown quote, i.e. > this is a quote
See extra newlines around the text in the quote

Expected behavior
The text appeared exactly as i'd written it
